    Purpose:  The Gamma Upsilon Academic Scholarship was established to assist graduating seniors in the local high schools in the greater Wichita Community.

     

    This program is a community service activity of the Gamma Upsilon Graduate Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. It is designed to provide financial assistance to graduating high school students to support their college education.  This scholarship can be awarded to any student. The scholarship funds may be used for tuition, books, or course related materials.

     

    Eligibility:  Any high school senior of the local Wichita Community. The applicant must be in good academic standing with their respective high school at the time of application and for the year of receipt of the award.  The student must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 or greater. To receive the award, the applicant must also be enrolled in a college or university to be eligible to receive the funds for the current school year.

     

    The applicant may not be under investigation, suspended, or expelled from high school for any reason nor may the applicant be convicted of or under any civil or criminal investigation.

     

    Selection of Candidates: An Evaluation Board consisting of members of the Gamma Upsilon Graduate Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. will select the scholarship recipients. The Board will consider each applicant’s character references, demonstration of leadership ability, and community involvement.   Applications submitted late or incomplete will not be considered.

     

    An official announcement and presentation ceremony will be held in the spring of each calendar year unless otherwise posted.  Recipients will be notified of their award and asked to participate in the program.

     

    Scholarship Awards: Recipients must provide proof of enrollment for the respective school year of application. Scholarships will be awarded no later than September of the respective year for fall enrollment, contingent upon receipt of all documentation, including certification of enrollment from the college or university. If the recipient is not returning to the college or university for the fall semester of the respective year, the funds will be held by the Gamma Upsilon Graduate Chapter pending proof of enrollment for the spring semester, of the respective year.

     

    If the recipient proves ineligible after the award is announced, the award will be revoked, and another applicant selected if possible.
